﹛﹛III. Programs and content of Elite College's Summer Camp at the St-Laurent Campus, South Shore Campus and Downtown Campus

﹛﹛The 2014 Summer Camp of Elite College runs from June 23 to August 15 at the St-Laurent Campus and South Shore Campus, and the last week will be held at the Downtown Campus from August 18 to August 22. The Summer Camp will be coordinated under unified planning and supervision, but will be organized according to the specific conditions of each campus.

﹛﹛We believe that the nine-week Summer Camp will leave students with a memorable experience. The 11th Summer Camp of Elite College welcomes students from Preschool to Secondary 3. We have 7 major categories for the Summer Camp, which are: Preparation for Secondary Admission Exams (Grade 5), Welcome Classes for newcomers, Classes & Activities for Preschoolers & Pre-Kindergarteners, Classes & Activities for Grade 1 to 4 students, Preparation for Entering Secondary 1 in September (Grade 6), program designed for Secondary 1, 2 & 3 students and our English Only program. In order to satisfy the schedules of students who cannot attend the weekday camp, we've specially set up "Preparation for Secondary Admission Exams" Saturday courses for Grade 5 students.

﹛﹛Following years of accumulated experience, Elite College has gradually molded its unique brand of teaching styles. In this year's teaching arrangements, we will make improvements on the existing bases. Specific arrangements are as follows:

﹛﹛Classes & Activities for Preschoolers & Pre-Kindergarteners 每 Learning While Having Fun

﹛﹛Classes & Activities for Pre-Kindergarteners are designed for children who will enter kindergarten in September this year. The program implements a bilingual education, which will well equip children with a solid foundation of language skills, communication skills, and the ability to adapt to school life. We combine indoor classroom learning and outdoor activities together as our teaching method. French, English and Arts courses are taught by experienced and specialized teachers with a variety of tools such as using multimedia, singing songs, storytelling, and vocabulary games.

﹛﹛Classes & Activities for Preschoolers are designed for students who will enter primary school in September. French, English and Arts courses boast skilled and specialized teachers using a variety of learning tools.

﹛﹛Due to students in these two groups being very young, Elite College will employ full-time teachers and counselors to accompany them during the Summer Camp.

﹛﹛Classes & Activities for Grade 1 to 4 Students

﹛﹛French and math courses are designed to improve students' knowledge and abilities so that they will gain confidence and feel more comfortable at school. English courses will prove to be very helpful to them in the future, for example, in the English placement tests of secondary schools, and in getting into English CEGEPs and universities.

﹛﹛In this program, students have courses 每 including French, English, and Math 每 in the morning and activities in the afternoon. Compared to the programs for secondary students, grade 5 & 6 students, and welcome class students, this arrangement provides more time for recreation and exercise, whether it be drawing, music, sports, theater in French or in English, Chinese courses, crafts or swimming. These activities are intended to allow students to learn, while having fun. French and Math classes are organized according to students' grade, and English classes are assigned according to students' age and level. We will arrange an English placement test before the Summer Camp starts.

﹛﹛Preparation for Secondary Admission Exams (Grade 5)

﹛﹛For students who will participate in secondary admission exams this year, we recommend this specially designed program. This curriculum showcases our dedicated and experienced teachers, who have already steered previous students into top secondary schools; program managers with extensive educational experience; and carefully selected and prepared learning material. We have courses for grade 5 students aimed at entering French secondary schools or English secondary schools, and weekend courses for preparation for French secondary school admission exams.

﹛﹛The content of the Preparation for French Secondary Admission Exams includes review courses in French and math, and several practice exams per week with the goal of getting students familiar with typical exam questions. We will organize French and math placement tests for all students in the program in order to assign students of the same level to the same class and create the appropriate course schedules. In addition, we will arrange certain activities every week to allow students to relax a little.

﹛﹛Each year, some students register for our Preparation for English Secondary Admission Exams program. Since some English secondary schools, such as Royal West Academy, also require students to have a good grasp of French, we arrange a large proportion of English courses in this program, but with courses in French and math as well, in order to offer students a comprehensive education. These students are eventually admitted to their schools of choice just like students in the French program.

﹛﹛Thanks to the joint efforts of and cooperation between staff, teachers, students and parents, we have confidence in the brilliant results of our students in the 2014 Secondary Admission Exams. Elite College will provide students and parents with relevant information about secondary admission exams in late August or September. At the same time, Principal Zhao will provide parents with recommendations on how to choose the right school for their child in consideration of the schools' characteristics along with the student's studies, personality, preferences, family situation and performance in the Summer Camp.

﹛﹛Preparation for Entering Secondary 1 in September (Grade 6)

﹛﹛Elite College has offered this program, the Preparation for Entering Secondary 1 (Grade 6), since 2007. A student who enrolled in Coll豕ge Jean-de-Br谷beuf in 2006 had indicated that the homework, taking up to 3 hours a day and one day per weekend, was exhausting. After all, there is a big difference between primary and secondary; studies are tougher and there are more challenges, especially in top secondary schools. Sometimes parents feel powerless, although they would really like to help their children. Normally, students start feeling less stressed in the second semester, as they gradually adapt to the studies in secondary school.

﹛﹛In view of this, Elite College had started this initiative in 2007 in order to facilitate students' studies in secondary school. The students can make use of summer time to improve their English, to prepare for the Secondary 1 courses, as well as to participate in group activities. It's been shown through recent years' experience that our Camp is a great help to students and that they are able to adapt to secondary studies more easily as a result.

﹛﹛Program Designed for Secondary 1, 2 & 3 Students

﹛﹛This program includes more English classes, because it is an important course for students who want to pursue their studies in CEGEP or in university in English. Our English classes are divided based on the students' levels. At the same time, this program also includes French and Math courses to help students review what they've already learned and to impart new knowledge for the coming semester. The Summer Camp for secondary students focuses on lectures. However, we still organize a variety of activities for students to choose from. Students have two afternoons per week for leisure.

﹛﹛Furthermore, Elite College takes fully into account the fact that students in Secondary 3 will have to take Provincial Exams in the following year and incorporates relevant exercises and mock examinations into this program for these students.

﹛﹛Welcome Classes for Newcomers

﹛﹛Students in Welcome Class are special groups. They all wish to finish their welcome classes and enter regular primary or secondary schools to continue their studies. Therefore, in this program, we arrange a large number of intensive French courses for students, and plan two afternoons per week for activities. Although studies are tough, after a summer of intensive French courses, we believe students will make great progress in French and impress their parents and classmates as well. Each year, many newly arrived students (about 1 year) of Elite College are admitted into top schools, to which the Welcome Class program contributes greatly. Yanjun Zou had followed the Welcome Class program at Elite College in May 2012, and successfully entered into a renowned school at the end of August in the same year. Qinyu Cui, a student of Elite College in the South Shore Campus, arrived in Montreal in February 2012 and was admitted into the top secondary school 每 Coll豕ge Jean-de-Br谷beuf. Gong Chen attended Elite College's Summer Camp in July 2012, and after 7 months of hard work entered into a top school, obtaining the highest marks in their grade in the spring of 2013. Jiapeng Chen, who only came to Canada in the summer and attended Elite College's Summer Camp twice and a half, entered into regular secondary school by passing exams in September 2012. Since then he kept making great progress in his studies and continued his success in spring 2013 by being admitted into a top school.

﹛﹛English Only Program

﹛﹛This program is aimed at students who want to improve their English this summer. Elite College specially set up the entire curriculum for the English Summer Camp program, along with activities in the afternoon.

﹛﹛Preparation for Secondary Admission Exams (Saturday Courses)

﹛﹛In order to satisfy the schedules of students who can't attend the weekday camp, Elite College opened Saturday courses for the Preparation for Secondary Admission Exams for Grade 5 Students. The classes take place every Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm at the Downtown Campus. With the same qualified teachers we employ at the other two campuses of Elite College, this program combines French and math courses with relevant exercises and mock exams which are helpful to prepare for the Secondary Admission Exams.

﹛﹛Intensive Courses in Preparation for Secondary Admission Exams (Grade 5)

﹛﹛Although nearly all students in the Preparation for Secondary Admission Exams program can be admitted to their schools of choice, some students spend little time studying, so they may have little memory of the material and they do not acquire a solid foundation. These students include newly arrived students, students with bad study habits and poor performance at school, mentally immature students who do things carelessly and slowly. In the past, we used to make every effort to help them during the Summer Camp, including asking teachers to give them additional classes. However, we had limited time during regular Summer Camp. Therefore, although these students entered top secondary schools, they still had poor performances, and some have even been expelled from their schools. Some students might not be mature enough before entering secondary school, and only slowly grow up afterwards. Thus, it is imperative to provide students with a good learning environment to gradually develop good study habits and to lay a solid knowledge base.

﹛﹛Therefore, this year, after the Summer Camp starts, Elite College will launch a new program 每 Intensive Courses in Preparation for secondary Admission Exams (weekends only). We will contact parents of those students we feel are in need. If other parents also think this program would be helpful to them, they can register for it as well.
