Information on math contests

Since 2010 several national math contests have set up a test center at Elite College. Elite College will organize students to participate in the various national math competitions, such as Opti-Math, Opti-Math-Plus; Thales, Byron-Germain, Fibonacci, Pythagoras, Euler, Lagrange, Newton; Gauss, Pascal, Cayley, Fermat, Mathematica Centrum, and so on (See the table below for detailed information).

Students of Grade 3 to Secondary 3 can participate in the Mathematica Centrum math competition.

  • Pythagoras (grade 6): 75 minutes; 50 questions

  • Euler (grade 7): 75 minutes; 40 questions

  • Lagrange (grade 8): 75 minutes; 40 questions

  • Newton (grade 9): 75 minutes; 40 questions

  • For Secondary 1, 2 & 3 students - the OPTI-MATH competition will take place in March.
     
  • For Secondary 4 & 5 students - the OPTI-MATH-PLUS competition will take place in March.

    The OPTI-MATH competition includes OPTI-MATH for Secondary 1, 2 & 3 students and OPTI-MATH-PLUS for Secondary 4 & 5 students.

    Usually, schools will pre-select the students who will participate in the provincial and national competitions. The contest is designed to encourage students to meet challenges.

    Each year, more than 5000 students from 300 schools participated in OPTI-MATH competitions. Most of the students came from Quebec schools, but others came from the schools in New-Brunswick, Nova-Scotia and British Columbia.

    Many Elite College students achieved good results in the competition.

2021-2022 AQJM Math and Logic contest news:

Congratulations to 9 Elite College students achieved good results in AQJM Quebec finals!

In the AQJM Quebec final held in May 2022, 9 students achieved outstanding results. In the P2, S1 and S2 groups, 3 students were invited to the award ceremony to be held at Laval University, and 6 students received the "Mention spécial" award! 2021-2022 AQJM Math and Logic contest news:

Congratulations to 20 Elite College students who stood out in the Quebec semi-finals of the 2021-2022 AQJM International Mathematical Logic Competition and qualified for the Quebec final! (List of students who entered the Quebec finals, award certificates) They will be invited to participate in the Quebec final on May 14.

 38.4% of the Elite College semi-finalists were selected for the Quebec final! More than 10,000 quarter-final partcipants in Quebec , and 690 people entered the final, accounting for 6.9%. The winners of the Quebec finals will also be invited to an awards ceremony at the University of Laval on June 11, where various prizes and bonuses will be presented.

Congratulations to the many Elite College students for their excellent results in the 2021-2022 AQJM International Mathematics Competition!

The rate of Elite College students selected for the semi-final of the competition reached 68%! One student in group P1 and three students in group P2 all won the first place in Quebec, one student in group P3 won the second place in Quebec, and one student in group S1 won the third place in Quebec!

2020-2021 AQJM Math contest news:

Congratulations to the many Elite College students for their excellent results in the 2020-2021 AQJM International Mathematics Competition!

The rate of students selected for the semifinals of the competition reached 59.6%! In particular, 90% of the participants of secondary 2 and 3 are selected for the semi-final! The students who attend our school have obtained good grades.

Math contest news:
After three selections – quarter-finals, semi-finals and Quebec finals, the math contest for the AQJM final was held in Paris in August 2019. Eight finalists, two students from Elite College Wang He Qiao (P2) / Feng Shuzhao (S2)) represented Quebec at this grand finale. We wish they will be success!

At the Quebec semi-finals in March 2019 of the international AQJM math competition, participants from Elite College achieved outstanding results! 85 students of Elite College were invited to participate in the Quebec finals, and 45 students won. They are invited to the Quebec finals, an increase of 53% over last year! Many students had the result of 100%.

Math contest news: At the Quebec quarter-finals in December 2018 of the international AQJM math competition, participants from Elite College achieved outstanding results! 98 students are invited to the Quebec semi-finals, an increase of 23% over last year! 16 students had the result of 100%.

Math contest news: At the 2018 Canada Mathematica Centrum Math Contest, Many students achieved outstanding results. Totally 120 Elite College students won the certificates of Distinction. The winning percentage is 93%, a high record in recent years.

Math contest news: Boyuan Li won the 3th place in category CM at the final contest in Paris on August, 2018. Congratulations! After three selections of three stages - Provincial quarter-finals, semi-finals,the mathematics competition of AQJM final was held in Paris in August 2018. The student of Elite College Li Boyuan and others students represented Quebec and won the third place in category CM group's overall ranking in the finals. Among them, he scored the first place in the second day of the competition. Congratulations to Li Boyuan for achieving such excellent results!

Math contest news:  At the Quebec finals in May 2018 of the international AQJM math competition, Elite College students have achieved excellent results! All winners of Quebec final contest are invited to the awards ceremony on June 18 at Laval University. In the Quebec finals 2018, 24 students(Group P2) were invited to participate to the awards ceremony on June at Laval University,8 of which were students of Elite College; 11 students (Group P3) were invited to participate to the awards ceremony on June at Laval University, 3 of which were students of Elite College.  Winners list

46 students of Elite College were invited to participate in the Quebec finals, and 13 students (group P2) received full marks. Elite students who are taking secondary entrance exam preparation classes or who have just recently passed the exams performed strongly.

Information about the quarter-finals of the AQJM international math contest: • The AQJM math contest is divided into four stages: quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals in Quebec, and finals in Paris; • Students who succeeded in the quarter finals were invited to the semi-finals; more than 80 students of Elite were invited to semi-finals in March 2018. Some students of Group P2 received full marks. • Having attended the classes for preparation for secondary entrance exams, and math training courses afterwards, most students of Elite College obtain excellent results in math contests. • Winners of the provincial final may be selected to participate in the FFJM international final in Paris in August. This year, David Zhou was chosen for the final in Paris, with all travel costs covered by the organizing committee.

Math contest news: At the 2017 Canada Mathematica Centrum Math Contest, Elite College was ranked 1st in the schools of Quebec and 6th in Canada for the contest Byron Germain of Grade 4, Fibonacci of Grade 5 and Euler of secondary 1 ! Four students of Elite College Emma Hu of Grade 5, Sunny Yang of Grade 6, Leo Shi of Grade 7, Jerry Ran of Grade 8 have achieved full scores and won the first prize of Canada! Many students achieved outstanding results. Totally 91 Elite College students won the certificates of Distinction.

Math contest news: At the 2016 Canada Mathematica Centrum Math Contest, Elite College was ranked 1st in the schools of Quebec and 6th in Canada for the contest Fibonacci of Grade 5 ! Two students of Elite College have achieved full scores and won the first prize of Canada! Many students achieved outstanding results. Totally 59 Elite College students won the certificates of Distinction.

Math contest news: At the 2014 national math competitions from the "Centre des Concours Mathématiques" held in April, Elite College was the provincial champion in Byron-Germain (grade 4), Euler (Sec 1) and Newton (Sec 3).

HU QIAOYU (grade 4, South Shore campus), SHI LEO (grade 4, St-Laurent campus), DONG DIANDIAN (grade 5, South Shore) and WANG LINGWEN (Sec 1, St-Laurent) won first prize in Quebec.

Over 90% of Elite College's 140 participants earned a Certificate of Distinction.

Accomplishments in math contests: in the February 2014 Pascal, Cayley and Fermat math contests organized by the University of Waterloo, Elite College students achieved excellent results.   • The AQJM math contest is divided into four stages: quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals in Quebec, and finals in Paris;
  • Over 19,000 students participated in the quarter-finals in December 2013 in Quebec;
  • 5508 students were invited to semi-finals in Quebec, accounting for 29% of all participants;
  • In Quebec, semi-finals take place on March 22th, 2014;
  • 78 Elite College students participated in the quarter-finals;
  • 57 Elite College students were invited to the semi-finals, accounting for 73% of all participants from Elite College.

  • Having attended the classes for preparation for secondary entrance exams, and math training courses afterwards, most students of Elite College obtain excellent results in math contests.

  • In 2012 Fibonacci math contest (Grade 5), Elite College won 11th prize in Canada, 2nd prize in Quebec and 1st place in Montreal;

  • In 2012 Byron–Germain math contest (Grade 4), Elite College placed 25th in Canada, 5th in Quebec and 2nd in Montreal;

  • Elite College student Ruijie Liu won the championship in Canada and was awarded with Fields medal; Awards
